It was a dining experience of Stenströms CEO, Anders Bengtsson, at a Cape Town restaurant that would change the fate of the Mother City’s destitute street children significantly. Patrons were invited via a card placed on each table, to donate R5 to StreetSmart SA in suppport of their efforts to rescue vulnerable children from a life on the streets.
Stenströms and StreetSmart SA have found common ground in helping to keep Cape Town’s youngsters off the streets, so much so that Stenströms recently handed over a further R25 OOO donation to StreetSmart SA at the Radisson Blu in Granger Bay. These funds will help to maintain the momentum of this life-changing project.
Stenströms was established in 1899 and produces fine quality men’s shirts and ladies’ blouses made from 100% twofold super cotton. This iconic Swedish fashion house has just celebrated its 115th anniversary by creating an exclusive anniversary collection capturing the very essence of the brand. For 115 years, the brand has delivered garments boasting on trend design and superb quality.
Stenströms’ corporate social responsibility footprint stretches as far afield as Estonia, where they established the country’s first centre for disabled children and their families in 2007, also supporting a home for disabled children.
StreetSmart SA is a registered non-profit and a public benefit organisation that distributes raised funds to selected beneficiaries. The current beneficiaries in South Africa areorganisations that work with street children and those who are vulnerable and at risk of becoming street children. StreetSmart SA raises money via participating restaurants, and distributes it directly to organisations who have the experience and facilities to help vulnerable children. Participating restaurants display a StreetSmart SA card on their tables, informing patrons that a voluntary R5 donation will be added to their bill, which they may increase at their discretion.
