OBITUARY - Chris Drummond

OBITUARY:? Christopher Vivian Drummond? :? 15/05/58 - 06/04/10

Chris was first and foremost, a family man. He was extremely proud of his sons, Andrew and James, and Flora, his wife. He was a keen sportsman and those of you who knew him, would know that he climbed to the base camp of Everest. He climbed Kilimanjaro, ran many Comrades', he completed the Cape Epic twice and many Argus races. Just recently he brought Lance Armstrong out to South Africa for a fundraising cycle tour. Chris was very humble about his achievements. He was a successful business man, heading up IRR Properties and Benguela Cove and was the chairman of the Claremont Improvement District. He had an immense community spirit. Not only was he on the Board of StreetSmart, but he was in the process of setting up a cricket academy for disadvantaged children and had many other involvements. In this way he used his connections and time for the benefit of others.

When I first met Chris, what he said to me was that he was extremely grateful for the opportunities that life had given him and that he felt very strongly that he would like to give back to those who were less fortunate than himself. Prior to being involved with StreetSmart, he was also involved with a project for street children in the southern suburbs. He took his work with StreetSmart and everything that he did, very seriously. He was in the process of organising a magnum wine auction for StreetSmart.

We will miss him and we are grateful for his contribution. I have no doubt that St Peter opened the gate wide for Chris and welcomed him because he lived his life with integrity, passion and a concern for others. May he rest in peace.
