StreetSmart SA has handed over R95,000 to Sinethemba Projects in Knysna. The handover took place at Featherbed Cruise Café.

“Since the launch of StreetSmart in Knysna, Sinethemba has benefitted significantly from this community initiative. Thank you so much to the local committee, the participating StreetSmart restaurants and accommodation places, as well as the public who donate as little as R5. Your support helps many children stay off the streets and in school,” says Michael Smith, Director of Sinethemba, a youth development centre receiving funding towards the salary of the auxiliary social worker.

Nicole Tunmer of Featherbed Company had this to add: After we started with StreetSmart, we had a tumultuous two years and could not run StreetSmart as successfully as we had anticipated. We are, however, looking forward to the future and are committed to contributing quite considerably to this wonderful initiative over the next year.”

Caroline’s @ Belvidere Manor, Chatters Bistro, Cruise Café, earth & fire @ Blackwaters Lodge, Featherbed Nature Reserve, Headlands House Guest Lodge, John Benn, Social Eatery @ Knysna Hollow Hotel, The Bell Tavern @ Belvidere Manor and Totties Farm Kitchen have all embraced StreetSmart making a difference in their community.

“With the help of our generous supporters, StreetSmart continues to stand out as an important conduit of much needed funding for our beneficiary organisations. In spite of current financial pressures making it harder for people to donate, StreetSmart will be disbursing over R1 million to beneficiaries nationally for the sixth consecutive year, enabling us to support 38 programmes. We are so excited to be able to continue this work through responsible giving and we invite restaurants, accommodation establishments and wine tasting venues to become StreetSmart in their local communities,” says Melanie Burke, Chairman of StreetSmart SA.
